The Family Tree

Hello!

This weekend our family will adventure out into the wilderness to get our family tree.  Something we have been doing since James and I got married.

The kids love the adventure, and it is a nice memory making tradition.

I used Eat Cake Graphics stamp;

What are some of your family traditions?

It's an Eat Cake Graphics type of Christmas

Good Morning,

Are you excited for Christmas? We are!

Just like Eat Cake Graphics'

I brought some of my images to work, and colored during my breaks.  I then made up fun scenes using Delicious "October Afternoon" Christmas Design papers.  Adding a bit of Washi tape, and some bling.

What is on your wish list?  I am wishing for big snowflakes, baking cookie time, warm hugs, and fun family laughter.

Happy Krafting,

It's Almost December!

Here we have my 2 Artist Trading Cards that I made for the Stampotique December Christmas ATC Swap.  LOVED this one.  I am really enjoying the blending with pencils, without using Gamsol, just a variety of colors.

Sparkle-Page 1 of my Recycled Cardboard Book

Hello,

I have decided to recycle the cardboard at work, and make a book of fond memories for my girls based on my past, and their childhood.  The above is the very first page.  It contains all the magical elements from my Oma (Grandmother) that I am now sharing with my children.

When I was a child I would explore her sewing room, gathering buttons and fabrics, and simply sitting around all of them in awe. Organizing the buttons was one of my favorite things to do.

My Oma called me her Sunshine #1, as I was the 1st Grandchild, however I was but one of the many rays of sunshine in her life.  My Oma was a dreamer, and had so much talent. She had magical butterflies in her bedroom that moved during the night, and when I stayed with her each summer, I would awaken to find them in different places. I taught her how to say her first french word as well;  Papillon!

I hope I have inspired you to look into your memories and start creating.

Coloring Animal Mandalas by Wendy Piersall

Hello! Have I got an amazing book to share with you.

Displaying 9781612433509.01.jpg
This book is simply wonderful. I have included the one I colored in, but I want to mention that both my girls, ages 8 and 10, have started coloring them too.
I decided to give this book to them when they were upset about something. 10 minutes into the coloring, and they both calmed down. Focusing and using pretty colors to fill in the wonderful mandalas in this book helps calm the mind. It worked for all 3 of us on different occasions.

I was fortunate enough to get a copy of an interview with the author. It is quite informative, and interesting. This is what Wendy Piersall had to say;

1. What are mandalas?
Mandalas are circle drawings that have history in ancient Buddhism and today are used in art therapy, meditation and as beautiful decorative art. Monks used to take days to make mandala designs out of colored sand, then sweep the sand into the water to teach the impermanence of life.

2. Why animal mandalas?
I first drew animal mandalas when my oldest daughter was going through a phase of a deep love of animals. At the time, she wanted to become a marine biologist and I was looking for inspiration of mandalas to draw for my kid's activities websites. Years later, my editor from Ulysses Press found them and approached me to do a whole book of animal mandalas. I jumped at the chance!

3. Why should adults color? (or How can adults find coloring relaxing?)
I find coloring relaxing for several reasons. Coloring was a favorite activity as a child, so it's easy to tap into the warmth and happiness of those memories when coloring. My mother has Alzheimer's, and the nursing home where she lives also does coloring activities with their residents because it is calming, easy and enjoyable. Mostly, though, I find it extremely meditative to both draw and color mandalas. You really have to clear your mind to color them and simply pay attention to the lines and colors. It makes you focus your thoughts away from daily life and stress and on the simple process of coloring.

4. Is illustration mandalas as relaxing as coloring them in?
As I mentioned before, yes, though sometimes I get stuck on the creative process when my perfectionism kicks in. When that happens, I walk away for a while or work on a different drawing. Just like with life, if you over think things, it's best to take a break and approach drawing with a fresh perspective.

5. How often do you color?
These days I've been coloring almost daily! In some ways, it's a nice break from drawing, because I get to enjoy the art rather than work on creating it. It also feeds my creativity, because I'm starting to get new ideas for more coloring pages to draw in the future. I have to be proactive against getting burned out, so coloring is the perfect way to stay creative without having to crank out work on paying gigs.

I am thinking of purchasing several of these books and gifting them to friends and family for Christmas!  Adding a wonderful array of pencils and pens.  It is nice to find something that is both wondrous, and affordable. Not to mention good for your health!

Hugs to all of you,
Tanya

Art Journalling

Hello,

I saw a photograph in one of the magazines I was reading, so I took out a steno pad and my black pen and reproduced it freehand, but not exactly worrying about the lines and technique. I then washi taped it into my book.
This is but one of the pages in my Art Journal that I am still working on.  Loving my Caran d'ache watercolor crayons for sure!

What are you working on?

The World to Me

Good Morning!

Here is the Birthday card I made for my daughter's 8th Birthday.  I chose to use the amazing
Eat Cake Graphics 8033-K To the world (scene) stamp.
I just love the sentiment. Both my daughters are the world to me, they are such gifts, on loan to us, until they fly out of the nest, to find their own place in life.

I used my copic markers to color it in, and then took my blender solution, dabbed it on my fluffy cloth (an old fluffy sock that had lost it's mate) and created the sky texture.  This technique has to be one of my favorites!

I used my favorite papers as well.  The Sassafras Lass "Indie Girl" collection.

Hope all is well with you,

Stampotique's "Naughty" themed ATC cards

Good Morning!

Here is a picture of my Artist Trading Cards for the "Naughty" themed Stampotique ATC trade.

I called them "Red Light District". I did not have a traffic light stamp, so I drew one up myself, colored the red one in and added some glaze to make it shine.  I then made it look like Smumanha the mermaid was naked and covering herself with feathers.

Do you think I succeeded in capturing the "Naughty" theme?

Happy Krafting!

Thank You - Party Favor

Materials Required / Used

Eat Cake Graphics Stamps

Cardstock, Cutting board, hole punch,  Scor-pal, ribbon, markers, adhesive, lollipop

Cut your cardstock into a  6.5" x 2.5" rectangle

Score your rectangle at
1/2"
3"
3 1/2"
6"

Fold your cardstock
and punch out circles at 1.25" (center)
as seen above.

Getting the lollipop in is a bit tricky, you have to angle it in.  Make a trial one and play around with it.  I promise, it will fit in.

As you can see, the lollipop is nestled in.
You can then go about decorating the front.  I used my fun Eat Cake Graphic stamps to do just that, and stamped the words "thank you " over the journal blotch.  Theses were given out to the party goers.  An affordable and impressive party favor!  Who doesn't like those?

Ultimate Body Art Book Review

Hello!

I have watched my girls go through this book, and I myself have perused the pages.  It is quite a fun book.  It gets your mind working, and not just for body art, but for Art Journal pages too!

My 8 year old got me using this book, and we spent time giving each other tattoos.

Of course my daughter's turned out beautifully.  She chose to reproduce the Strawberry and the Owl image from the book, adding her own flare to it.  I tried reproducing the cat image, and my own butterfly.

The markers were a bit tricky to find but eventually I found them at DeSerres.
They wash off a bit too easy. I will try the Tulip brand the next time.

We both rated this book a 10+.  Here is what Jimmer had to say about the book.
"It is a 10+10!  All my fingers and all my toes."

There are so many ideas to be ingested, and so many pages that urge you to go beyond their prompts.  Such a fun way to spend time together too.

If you click on the image of the book, you will see that it is available on Amazon.ca, as well as on Amazon.com.

Happy Krafting,
Hugs,
Tanya and Jimmer

P.S. If you do try this out, please send me a link, I would love to see your creative tattoos.

The Everything Girls "Ultimate Sleepover Party" book review

Good Morning,

I recently received this book, and my eldest daughter jumped all over it.  So I asked her for a review.

As a parent, the book is full of fantastic ideas for those who LOVE them based parties.  I rate this book a 10+.  It is affordable, the ideas are doable and it also makes a good birthday gift item.

Here is what my 10 year old had to say about it.

"This book has a lot of great ideas for girls ages 6 and up. It is always a good idea to use it when your planing a sleepover with a bud or for a birthday party.

I recently went to a friends house and we did a party game on page 79.  It was part of the Food Fest Sleepover section. You had to take stuff out of the fridge, and put it on the table. All you can use to make a food dish is the stuff you took out and put on the table.  Whoever had the best dish won.

It's a great thing to use when you and your friend are bored.you take an idea from the book and do it if you have the materials.

Thank you for listening to my opinion and hope you will get the book from a store near you!

Sincerely, Karlye "

What's The Word, Bird.

Hello,

I have been up to my eyeballs with Back-to-school business.  So many forms to fill out! Not to mention getting the girls back into a routine.

The above is my latest ATC card using the fabulous ECG stamps.
Eat Cake Graphics stamps used:

Owls are one of my favorite things.  I had the most wonderful drives home in the winter, as I got to see the 3 snowy owls perched on the street lights.  They greeted me each night.

ATC cards are my favorite things lately.  Who knew you could put so much detail into a  2 1/2 X 3 1/2 card.  I also used a recycled Starbucks sleeve for this one.  I just LOVE the sleeves.  So many uses!

What's on your desk this week?

Hello,

I am back with another adorable Eat Cake Graphics rubber stamped image.

I played around with my pencils for this one, adding texture to bring a bit of dimension to the kitty cat.
This is such a cute image. Friends for sure, coming together on a sunny day in the fields. I think they are both surprised to find out they get along.  I like surprises like that, don't you?

Black and White Stampotique Exchange

Hello,
These are my Black and White ATC cards for the Stampotique ATC exchange.  They made it to their far away destinations, and were received with smiles.

Each stamp you see on these are from the Stampotique store.  I am in love with every single stamp in the store.  You place your order, and then they make the stamps, old school style, with wood.   They always stamp perfectly!

Be Uplifted on your Birthday

Hello!

Here is my "not so norm" birthday card.  I used left over papers that I had previously used to punch out shapes.  Then went to town stamping sewing and embellishing.  It is one of my usual busy cards, leaving the eye to roam around and discover many embellishments and layers.

Eat Cake Graphics stamps used:

1153-G Pixie Poppy
8151-D Happy birthday (fun text)

Pixie Poppy should have been red, but her hat reminded me of a snap dragon, so I went with that, figuring a fairy could die her clothes green should she want to.  It is, after all, a faerie's  prerogative!

Sunshiny Day

Good Morning,

Here is my bright Sunshiny card made using Eat Cake Graphics Stamps.
Stamps Used;

This card was purposely left without sentiment.  I like having cards in my collection that can be used for a variety of occasions. I started this card by picking out the orange cardstock, then the patterned paper.  I colored the cute stamps accordingly and the rest just all seemed to fall into place.
Fairy Blossom and Ms. Sunshine happen to be 2 of my favorite stamps at the moment.

So, what are your plans for August?  What projects are you working on?  I am thinking of offering up some blog candy, what kind of things do you all like to see when someone is offering up blog candy?

Well, you will be seeing more posts soon, so until then,
Happy Krafting,

You're my cup of tea!

Good Morning,

I have a bright and cheerful card here for you today.  One of the things I love about my friends is that we are all different on the outside, but we have so many similarities on the inside.  Thus the inspiration for this card.

I love getting together for tea/coffee with my girly girls.  So this goes out to all of you!

I enjoyed coloring this one immensely. Then put it all together with the design paper, brads, charm and button.

I am fond of Coffee, but love Earl Grey Tea.  What do you enjoy drinking with your circle of friends?

Art Journalling: Book Inspiration

Hello,

I saw the SDC#156: Book Inspiration challenge.  They asked what our favorite book was, and to use that to inspire a piece of art.  I had just gotten a new sketchbook in the mail, so I decided to do an art journal page.  Now please keep in mind, I am new at Art Journalling, so this may look messy to you.  But that is part of the attraction for me.  My cards have to be crisp balanced and pretty.  My art journal can be messy, ugly, unorganized too.

My favorite book is The Outsiders, by S.E. Hinton.  She was 16 when she wrote it.  I loved the book because it showed a group of kids sticking by each other, even though their lives were difficult.I read it for the first time when I was 14, after seeing the movie.  And like the good hoarder I am, I bought all her other books too. LOL!

This book introduced me to Robert Frost's "Nothing Gold Can Stay" poem.  It is still one of my favorites, although it leaves me with a sadness inside.  I think it was the first time I felt something after reading poetry!

As you will see I put a couple of important quotes on my pages.  I used Stampotiques  Smile stamp to represent Johnny Cade, and Pigtales to represent Cherry Valance, and Eric as Ponyboy Curtis.  The Picture Door stamp was used to represent the movie theatre's door in the first page of the book.

So?  What is your favorite book?

Happy Krafting,
Hugs

She Stole my Heart

Hello,

Happy Sunday.  It is raining, and I have to say I am a bit relieved.  The kids have friends over, and that means time to clean, craft, spend time with the husband!

Here is another card made with the amazing SunnyCDolls rubber stamps.  Did you know she also makes prints that are available in her Etsy store?  I have framed 2 of her postcards and they are up in my art room.  Inspiration at it's finest!

I used a light yellow and orange ink as my main inking stamp for the image.  I then went about using my pencils and gamsol.  I am LOVING the way they are turning out.  Soft and subtle.

What are you up to today?  Please leave me a message.  I love hearing all about what you are doing.

Summer Sweet!

Hello!

I am quite excited to show you what I have created with my new SunnyCDolls rubber stamps. I found her art on Etsy HERE  and it was just so different.  This one is called "I'm licked".  I adore the little skully stamps on the right side too.

I am trying to draw as of late, and Sunny Carvalho's work is inspiring.  I am always impressed with woman who find their own way of drawing and creating art.  Something to aspire to for sure.

This creation was all about trying a new technique. I used colored ink to stamp the image (instead of my bold black ink).  I then proceeded to color it in with my pencils, and blended it in with Gamsol.  It really gives it a watercolor look don't you think?

Who inspires you?  Be sure to leave me a link, I always love being introduced to new artists.

Lunch Notes, Just Because

Good Morning,

Here is one of my Lunch Note cards.  It is a little 3 x 3 card that I put in my daughters lunch bag.  I love leaving little notes, randomly and just because.  I hope that it brings smiles to my daughters faces when I do this, and also creates memories for them.

I used the SOG "Believe" stamp she is so glamorous.  I did have to crop her though.

I also love the word Believe.  It is a word that inspires me to try new things, and to continue on with things, when perhaps a feeling of tediousness sets in.

This particular card reminded my youngest to Believe in Fairies.  It is a big conversation topic in our home.

What kinds of things do you like to create, "Just Because"?  By all means, please share, I love getting new ideas.

I love using my Prismacolour pencils, and blending them with Gamsol.  It is a fun way to pass the day!

Stampotique Artist Trading Cards

Hello,

I ADORE my Stampotique Originals stamps, and recently found time to start following their Facebook Page.

I joined the May/June 2014 ATC swap, the challenge being to use a postage stamp and  Stampotique Rubber stamp(s).

I made these two and sent them on their way to Australia.  They made it safe and sound.

I can't wait for the next Swap.  Do any of you swap ATC'S?  I would love to join in.  Let me know.

Excuse me, the bird feeder is empty

Good Afternoon,

When I created this card, I had Sheena in mind, she has a backyard full of critters, and she posts pictures of them all the time.  I can just see one of you furry pals at the window, asking for food!  I gifted this to her as well.

After having made the card, my eldest announces to me that squirrels do not eat out of bird feeders.  Not 30 minutes later, on our way out, did we find a huge black squirrel trying to get into our homemade milk carton bird feeder.

7034-I Bunch of Grass

I enjoyed coloring this card.  The techniques I used were masking (for the grass and the squirrel) and decoupage.  I have the top portion of the squirrel popped out.  The rest was gluing, coloring, blending etc.

Have a fantastic day!
Do any of you get critters other than birds in your feeders?  If so, what kinds.

Keep Krafting,
Hugs,
Tanya

You do the hokey pokey and your turn yourself about, that's what it's all about!

Good Morning!

The sun is shining, the birds have been up since  3 am. It is going to be a 30 degree Celsius kind of day.

Have you ever noticed how much fun a "murder" of crows seem to be having.  I think they may know just what it is all about.  When I put these fab stamps in my cart, I knew I had to have them doing the Hokey Pokey.

A Different Perspective

Good Morning,

I am back with one of my favorite cards as of late.  I designed this one using Eat Cake Graphics stamps
Eat Cake Graphics Stamps Used

They have been in style over the years, but I am still stuck on birds, and this one is just so cute!  I decided to distress the paper and stitch by hand, giving it an authentic, shabby chic, home made look.  Do you like?

This sentiment is one that I live by.  When emotional, I step back, and try to look at things from a different perspective. And yes, sometimes that means headstands in my Ashtanga practice.

What motives do you live by?  Care to share?  Please do.

Have a fabulous day!

Good Morning!

Here is another multi-layered card using my Eat Cake Graphics stamps.

You are my Sunshine!

Good Morning,

My Oma used to call me her Sunshine #1, as I was the first ray of sunshine, followed by many other grandchildren.  I have continued this tradition by singing "You are my Sunshine" to my belly while I was pregnant. To this day, when my girls are upset, or need help falling asleep, all I have to do is hum or sing that song, and it has a soothing effect on them.

Once again I have added layers upon layers to create this bright and cheerful card.  I used my adorable
 EAT CAKE GRAPHICS stamps
Followed by some additional sentiment stamps and my Magnolia tree stamp.

Do you like to layer?  Do you find this to be too much on one card?  I love hearing what likes and dislikes you have when card making.  By all means, please leave me a message.
As for me,
there are times when I like to Keep It Simple, and other I can not get enough of the layered look.

Good Day!

How goes it peeps?  This is one of my favorite Eat Cake Graphics cards to date.  I love Baxter's face, looking up as if saying "Hello World, Here I come!"  And then we have Thurston pondering about what Baxter is thinking about.

I used my brown prismacolor pencils for the bears, and blended them in with gamsol.  I love how they intermingled! I also used my Stamping Bella Mixed Media stamp to add to the design paper in the background.  Adding some of my older Bella's Bobbles too.

Fairy House

Good Morning!
Here is my next Eat Cake Graphics creation.

It is Friday, and I am really excited to share this with you.   Every once in a while, more so as of late, I come up with an idea, and I am able to bring that idea into reality.  My Fairy House is one of those, and I am in love with it. It is a nice feeling to actually look at something I have made and not pick it apart!

I had previously made a birdhouse, so my template was similar. I used the mini milk carton die for the base of the house and then cut a rectangular piece, trimmed the edges and folded it for the roof.

Before assembling the two, I stamped the flowers on them, and then colored them in with my pencils. The kraft paper really makes the colors POP!

Next came assembling the milk carton, making a door with an oval punch, and putting some die cut twigs and charms on the front.

To tie it all together I mounted Fairy Nuff on the roof using a index card stick pin.  She is removable, as is the roof so you can hide many hidden fairy treasures in the box!  To secure the roof I used a mini clip.
