The Pixie Cottage Challenge #42

Good Morning,

This is my take on this weeks Pixie Cottage Challenge #42. The theme is metal, and this gorgeous guest sketch is from Penny.

Halloween is fast approaching, and I have had these papers for over a month. I finally sat down to use them, along with these fabulous Halloween stamps from Michelle's Scrapbooking and More. Here we have Hannah Witch just about to take flight on her broom on this spooky Halloween eve. The Spooky Tree background stamp helps add some ambiance don't you think?

As for the theme, I added some metal brads and a fabulous metal trinket I got in a mixed metal bag some time ago. Did I mention I have this thing for bags containing odds and ends?

Happy Krafting ladies, I can't wait to see what you come up with this week.
Hugs,
Tanya

Getting started!

Good Evening,

Thanks to Jenn's CTMH workshop, I now have some Christmas Cards to send out. I can now rest easy. I just love the old fashion colors of these design papers. The best thing was that I got to craft with some amazing women, along with my Mom. Sheena provided the best food, and really made us feel comfy, cozy, and crafty.

Have a wonderful evening, my husband is waiting patiently for the computer.

Hugs

Sketches In Thyme #20- Me Heart is Yours

Good Morning,

Here we find ourselves already at Sketches In Thyme's Challenge #20. Where does the time go? This weeks sketch is from Scrapbooks Etc.. This adorable little pirate is my daughter, who celebrated her 3rd birthday on an authentic Pirate Adventure.

We have this wonderful summer activity called Pirate Adventures of Ottawa, and since Jayme is a summer baby, we just had to try it out.  As you can see even I got into character.  They gave each one of us a name-tag with personalized Pirate names, and that is what I used for the title,  adding a little stamp telling Jayme "Me Heart is Yours".  Of course everyone thought she was a little boy, until she took her skull cap off and let loose a full head of gorgeous blond hair. This was such a fun day, lots of laughter, finding hidden treasure, shooting water guns off the big boat as the bad pirate tried to take over the ship.  Not to mention each pirate got a gold token to take with them. I would have used it on the layout but the gold clashed, so it is in her memory box.

I want to let you all in on a tip.   I did not have matching paper with the funky shape shown in the sketch, so I traced a piece of Sassafras Lass paper with the fancy trim and then cut it out by hand. As for the glitter letters, the black space needed something subtle. I debated between Arr Matey, and Arr Mate, settling with leaving the y off and going with mate.  Seems both mean the same and are both forms of "pirate talk".

Happy Scrapping everyone, I can't wait to see your compositions this week. This could even be used as a card layout don't you think!

Hugs
Tanya

The Pixie Cottage Challenge #41

Good Morning,

This weeks Pixie Cottage Challenge #41 provides us with a "Something Sweet" theme, and a wonderful sketch by Pam. You can choose to use the sketch, the theme, or both like I have. Please keep in mind you do NOT have to use a Pixie Cottage stamp to enter this challenge, but it is always exciting to see someone use them in our challenges.

I purchased these Pixie Cottage stamps a long time ago (the sentiment is also a PC stamp), and I finally got to use it. This stamp is all about sweetness to me, as is this delicious chocolate and pink design paper. You can find the "Smiles and his Cupcake" stamp at Michelle's Scrapbooking and More, the sentiment can also be found in her Pixie Cottage Stamp line.

With a theme as sweet as this one, I am sure I will be more than inspired, if not tempted this week.

Happy Krafting ladies,

Trick or Treat?

Good Morning,

I just loved the guest sketch this week over at The Pixie Cottage Challenge Blog, and so I had to make a second card with it. I used Whimsical Trick or Treat and Girls of the world Cassidy for this card, and these two Pixie Cottage stamps  cand be found at Michelle's Scrapbooking and More.

The first time I saw Cassidy I thought of Little Red Riding Hood, and when my stamps arrived last month, I had to pair her up with this adorable tree stamp.

I am playing around with my Copics, and have had some really good days, and some not-so-good days. For this one I used my Copic W series greys, and some Copic R series reds. I then used the fabulous blender pen after being inspired by the design team over at the Copic Creations challenge blog.

Hugs
Tanya

The Pixie Cottage Challenge #40- Sketch and Stitching

Good Morning,

This is my creation for  The Pixie Cottage Challenge #40. The sketch was provided by our guest designer Hazel, and our theme for this week is stitching. (Wich is something I learned to do from Jenn) I find adding stitching to a card adds a subtle touch that simply finishes off a card nicely, without over-embellishing it.

This card was made using The Pixie Cottages "May I Have This Dance" stamp. I really like how elegant this image is, and it can be purchased from Michelle's Scrapbooking and More. I specifically chose this image because I needed a card for a friends wedding, and this image immediately popped into my mind. I loved paper piecing her dress by cutting it out and adding layers with pop up dots.

I can't wait to see what you do with this challenge. I am always up for learning new ways to use our themes. Thanks goes out to each of you who particpate. I really enjoy your pieces of art.

Happy Krafing,
Hugs

Saturday News

Good Morning,

When I was little, we could go to the corner store and get grab bags that held some candies and small trinkets in them.  I just LOVED them.  They came in white bags with red and blue writing on them.

Well Michelle's Scrapbooking and More now has grab bags .  They range in price from $5.00 to $50.00 and you can bet that the goodies inside are decadent.   I have to say I still love grab bags, don't you?  There is something about the anticipation  of what will be inside that I just can't resist.

I hope you all have a wonderful weekend, and Happy Thanksgiving to my Canadian friends and family, and a huge amount of gratitude for my American friends as well.  May we all find something to be Thankful for this weekend.

Hugs
Tanya

P.S.  If you can't afford a grab bag, be sure to check out Michelle's blog HERE, she has wonderful October Candy to be won.

Having fun with Sparkle Creations

Hello,

This is my entry for Sparkle Creations challenge #13. I just had to have Suitcase Ruby, and so I pooled an order in with my good friend Sheena, and she has been waiting for over 2 weeks to be inked up. I had time at work to play with her today, and this is what I came up with.

I paper pieced the boots, suitcase, flower, belt, earing and purse with Kraft cardstock, and then colored her in with my Copics. I still have a lot of practice to do with hair, but nevertheless I think the end product is just fine. I used a stamp that I got on a recent parcel and put it behind Ruby. I then took out my silver airplane bead and mounted it on a stick pin. These items have been sitting patiently in my stash.

I wish I had someone to give it to. Perhaps someone will leave for a vacation or adventure soon, and then I can send Ruby their way.

Have a wonderful weekend, we are celebrating Thanksgiving this weekend, and we are cooking our very first turkey. Any tips would be appreciated, this is an adventure in our home for sure.

Hugs
Tanya

Sketches In Thyme Challenge #18

Good Morning,

Can you believe we are already on Challenge #18 over at Sketches In Thyme! This week we have a sketch by our Maven Diana. Way to go Diana, this sketch was a pleasure to use.

I had a hard time getting this one in place. I cut out the center of the design paper as I wanted to use the coordinating flower paper on the back for the circles, being sure to not waste one piece of this delicious Sassafras Indie Girl paper. I then had to play around with the positioning of the photos. I finally got it together, and finishing it off was a snap. I just love these clear buttons, they add dimension, but show the paper underneath. I hand sewed all the buttons onto the paper, put the flowers in place, and then added some acrylic hearts to balance off the shine.

Of course it rained all day, and trying to get a good photo proved the most challenging. I find it really hard to get a good photo of my layouts, and this one looks much better in person than the photo. I am proud to put another page in Karlye's book. These two photo's definitely capture her sparkle. She loves to dress up and wear pretty shoes that make tap sounds. If you notice in her hand the little book, it is a Schleich catalog, it depicts all sorts of resin toys, and she just loves these catalogs, and has even been known to sleep with them.

Hope you see your creations in this weeks challenge!

Happy Krafting,

The Pixie Cottage Challenge #39

Good Morning,

This is my creation for this weeks Pixie Cottage Challenge #39. My take on the sketch is not exact, but that is the fun part about a sketch, it can be interpreted as you see it. I added the embossing theme to the Happy Birthday sentiment on the left.  I used my black embossing powder to add dimension and a dash of boldness to the soft tones of the design paper.

I used one of my favorite Pixie Cottage Stamps, South End Girls, and she can be purchased at Michelle's Scrapbooking and More.  I had fun playing around with this one.  Pam really provides us with fun sketches.   I always enjoy getting constructive criticism, what do you think I could have added/taken away to make this a better card?

I can not wait to see what you all create this week.  Will you use the sketch?  The theme?  Will you use dry embossing or powder?  Oh the anticipation.

Happy Krafting,
Hugs
Tanya

So Simple

Hello,

Have you ever bought something because the "kid" in you really wants it?  Well I bought these retro Happy Birthday stickers years ago for just that reason.  My daughter has loved looking through the box several times, and I finally had the nerve to use one for my husband's birthday card from the girls last week.

This is such a simple card, but I love it!  The little girl in me just loves the bold Sassafras Lass paper, and the sticker!  Karlye loves elephants, so that is why we used this one.  The best part of the card is the inside, Jayme wrote on the left and drew a picture of her and Daddy, and even wrote Daddy! Karlye wrote her own personal message to Daddy, and I have to say reading it makes me want to cry.  I can say that I  never experienced a Father/Daughter relationship when I was little, and seeing how passionate, loving and caring my husband is with his daughters, more than makes up for it.  Life is full of gifts.

Happy Krafting, and thanks to all of you who read my blog and comment on the things I create.

Hugs
Tanya

Needed a birthday card and had some fun creating it!

Good Evening,

I had to make a card for Karlye, she is attending her first swimming birthday party, and the 6 year old is getting a guitar for her birthday. I got her the mini pops CD, and a Lego game. Hope they all have a blast.

I must be tired, or this is how the photo turned out, but the face looks much less orange on the final card. Not to mention the guitar is 3D but my photo and the angle I shot it on, does not show this.

Have a great weekend,

Hugs

Autism Benefit over at The Pixie Cottage

This post will remain on top for the week, I would really love to see Sienna's Autism Benefit  succeed.  Please scroll down for new posts.

Good Morning,

You can read more about this on The Pixie Cottage Blog,   but I wanted to add my own blurb.  This fantastic little girl named Sienna loves to draw, and wants to be an artist.  She  drew some pictures and asked her Mom to send them to Michelle, over at Michelle's Scrapbooking and More.   They  are now available in red rubber, or in digi form HERE, and Sienna has asked that all the proceeds be donated to the Autism Foundation.  Michelle has them up for sale and is simply asking for a $3.00 donation.

Is that not happy news on a Friday?

I am going to order mine right after I post this on my blog.

Hugs,
Tanya
