Pixie Cottage Challenge #8 -Pink and Red

Good Morning,

It sure is cold today, we have had pouring rain, warm weather, white-out snow storms and severe windchill warnings, all in the span of one week! I am ready for summer now. Can someone please speak with Mother Nature.

This is a card I made for the Pixie Cottage Challenge #8.
In honor of Valentine's day we have been asked to use pink or red as our main colour. I chose pink with a hint of red, but could not resist using this ribbon to make a wonderful and rich bow.
I had so much fun doing this card! I just had to use this adorable Pixie Cottage stamp, the bear and the mice look like best friends. You can find these stamps at Michelle's Scrapbooking and More. Be sure to drop in and say hi, she always posts wonderful creations on her blog, and she is such a warm person.
I got to use so many of my supplies that were sitting around waiting to be dusted off. Like the hat pin I bought 2 years ago, the rubbons I bought 3 years ago, and the beads (taken from my daughters stash). I got to use my new heart Spellbinders, and my really red ink that had been opened, but rarely used. I feel good now that my money was not wasted, and these all got put to use.
What is in your stash waiting to be used? Why not take them out and use them for The Pixie Cottage Challenge #8. You do not have to use Pixie Cottage stamps, you simply have to use your red and your pinks. Be sure to check out their blog candy that consists of new stamps too!

Have great weekend,
Hugs
Tanya

P.S. Anyone working with hearts this week, be sure to enter them into the Fussy and Fancy Friday Challenge.

Sugar Bowl Challenge #27

Hello,

First of all I want to thank Kathy for a wonderful sketch over at The Sugar Bowl. Continuing on with the praise, I want to thank them for asking us to use distressing on the card, it is one of my favorite things to do, but boy does it make a mess on my carpet when I use dark cardstock.

I have just peeked at the new stamps over at Funky Kits, and I may have to break my "no new stamps" rule already. I am so easily persuaded.

I will be giving this card to my daughter tomorrow. She went to bed crying because she misses her Daddy so much. He is gone for 4 days, and we are only on day 2. She is such a loving girl. I hope this helps cheer her up.

Have a great Wednesday ladies,
Hugs

Pretty little Willow

Good Evening ladies,

This is my creation for the Whiff of Joy Challenge #63. This qualifies under option number 2 which requires 3 design papers, 2 bling and1 flower. Whiff of Joy is still looking for one lucky person to be a guest designer for February, they are also looking for a couple of Design Team members.

I am pretty happy with the way my bow turned out tonight, and this is one of my new charms that I am excited to have in my embellishment stash. I thought it a different way to use a flower instead of my typical paper ones.

Have a good evening ladies.
Hugs
Tanya

Practical Scrappers Sketch Friday

Good Morning,

Have you seen Ann-Katrin's sketch this week over at Practical Scrappers? I took out my papers, and when I saw the pattern this design paper, a light bulb went off. I trimmed it down into an 8x8 layout making sure to have the word "Jolie" be the focal point for my title. I then took out my eyelets and laced this pink elastic chord through them. The rest of the layout was all about choosing the appropriate cardstock color to mount this sepia picture on.

When my daughter was younger, she loved to sleep in the sling, and boy did it make it easier to cook dinners. I remember this day, my husband came home from work, Karlye was playing in the family room, and Jayme, well she was asleep as usual while I prepared dinner. Words can not describe the warm feeling I would get with her warm little head resting on my heart. I am lucky that she still loves to put her head on my heart and cuddle when watching TV, or reading stories. I still can not resist kissing the top of her head, and taking in her scent, even though she is now 3 1/2.

My layouts tend to have little writing on them, but what you don't see is the envelope attached to that back of it. I like to write my daughters a letter about why I chose the picture I did. I will continue to do this until I get a bit more brave and try my own handwriting.

Hope to see your take on this sketch,

Hugs
Tanya

Whiff of Joy Guest Designer Call

Hello,

Do you love Whiff of Joy stamps as much as I do? Well now is the chance to show them just how much. They are looking for 1-3 guest designers to create cards and such for them. It is a two month commitment, and then they choose 1-3 more people. Is that not exciting?

The above card is what I did with the sketch provided. I wanted to do something way more fancy, but in the end I simply paper pieced sitting Willow, and tried to make a romantic card. Did I succeed? It is so hard to make something when you are thinking about what others will think. I did enjoy using my January Scrapbooking kit from Scrappin Great Deals though, I am loving all the purples.

For more details please go to the Whiff of Joy blog found here.

Embossing with Practical Scrappers

Here we are, Tuesday already. How are you all doing today?

This weeks challenge over at Practical Scrappers is to create a project using any form of embossing. I have always admired dry embossing on white-core cardstock,so this is what I decided to do for this card. The trick is to lightly sand the tops down and to let the white peak through, adding a new dimension to the image. I had completely forgotten my first attempt with this technique back in November, so this officially makes it my second attempt trying this out. I am having difficulty with my memory lately :(

This card is quite different in size, I got the sketch out of my "Originals" book. It is an 8"x31/2" card, and I have to say I like the space it leaves around the image. As you can see I kept a forest theme, making it look like she is taking a stroll through the forest. Perhaps looking for her friend Bambi?

I would love to hear about your favorite embossing technique, and to see your work entered into this week's challenge!

Hugs,
Tanya

P.S. Practical Scrappers is looking for 4 new design team members, I know you are all talented, so don't be shy, make sure you apply before January 20th, at 5pm ET.

A card for Jenn

Hello,
Just a quick post tonight. I got back from Jenn's baby shower, and I had a fantastic time. It is so exciting being part of the anticipation. Jenn is due next month, and then there will be another beautiful little girl in this world. It takes a village to raise a child, and seeing all of Jenn's family and friends together today, I can honestly tell you that this little girl will be loved and have many helping hands to guide her as she grows up.
Enjoy your Sunday evening,
Hugs

Friday Night Accomplishment

Hello Ladies,

A brief post to show you what I was up to last night. I sat down hoping to be creative, and decided to tackle this weeks Whiff of Joy Challenge #62. This week they are asking us to create a card using Jane Johnson's sketch. This is one of the first times I added my own take on a sketch.

Usually I reproduce it so that it is identical, but this time I used my embellishments to give a similar look to the sketch. I also altered Oakley, he is usually holding a Christmas ornament, but this time I made him hold a flower with some bling on it (keeping with Practical Scrappers bling challenge this week). The picture does not show it well, but I inked the edges of the black chipboard with orange ink.

I am going to save this one for my hubby, send it to work with him on a day that I need to apologize for something. Yes, we have an amazing marriage, but I to have been known to be cranky. LOL!

In closing I want to be sure to send you over to Frosted Designs, they asked us to use eyelets on our card, and I have to say, a long time ago when they first came out I bought TONS of them. I really have to start using them now, so hats off to you ladies for asking me to do just that.

What embellishment do you have laying about that you need to start using?

Happy Saturday,
Hugs
Tanya

Blinging it Up with Practical Scrappers

Practical Scrappers
challenge this week is all about using glitter and bling. The winner of this weeks challenge will end up with some bling from Glitz Design. How is that for insentive? We all need little of that in our lives at times, at least I do. What better way to stay warm too, crafting and catching some glint off all the glitter and bling.
This card was made for my husband, he tends to be outnumbered in our home, being the only male in a house full of princesses (myself included in this count). He is so good at not complaining, and actually seems to enjoy it. I wanted to remind him just how valued he is, and I think it worked. Karlye and Jayme signed their names inside to, and he had a big smile on his face when they gave it to him. He most certainly is our "Knight in shining armor"!
I would love to see what your creative minds come up with for this challenge.

Happy Krafting everyone,
Hugs
Tanya

My take on Practical Scrappers Sketch Friday

Happy Monday!

I got my second kit from Scrappin Great Deals last week. For Christmas my husband signed me up for a 6 month subscription, and I am pretty excited to get started, and determined to use as much of the kit as I can this month. Using this determination, I attempted another layout for Karlye. She was almost 1 when I took this picture. She can still melt my heart with a simply smile, and I am grateful that she is in my life. Sigh, she is now 5!

This layout can be found over at Practical Scrappers for their Sketch Friday Challenge. This sketch would work well for cards too. I will keep checking in to see what you ladies can do with this sketch. Thank you Ann-Katrin I loved using this one.

I am adding this to Frosted Designs Challenge this week. I did use my ColorBox ink on the edges of my paper and to the chipboard prior to adding the glitter embossing powder.
Have a wonderful day,
Hugs
Tanya

My Friend Willow

Hello Ladies,

I hope you are all doing well tonight. I sat down last night and this is the result of my 2 hours spent crafting. The Whiff of Joy Challenge #61 is to use the colors aqua and red, and the sketch used is Mojo Monday's Sketch #120. To top off this card I added a metal flower from my stash, they have been sitting around so long, I could not tell you who they are from, nor what year they became part of my stash. Thus a shout goes out to 365 cards for getting me to use metal on my card for day 312.
Willow is one of my favorite girls to use, she is such a pretty little girl and she is "sending out happy thoughts" to all of you tonight.
Hugs,
Tanya

P.S. I am getting better, a few years back I would have thrown this card out. Why you may ask? Because the word "thoughts" is a tad off center and it upsets me. BUT, I am learning that it is ok to not be perfect.

Practical Scrappers Button Challenge

Good Afternoon Ladies! How are you all doing today?
This card is my very first entry as a design team member for Practical Scrappers. Every MONDAY you will find a new challenge posted, and every Tuesday you will find one of my creations posted on their site showcasing that challenge. For inspiration, be sure to check in every day, each design team member has a special day where they get to inspire you with there talent.
This weeks challenge is "buttons". When I was a little girl, I used to sneak into my Oma's sewing room to play with her button jars. About 5 years ago, I bought a huge bag of miscellaneous buttons and they sat around until my daughter found them when she was 18 months old. She was never one to put things in her mouth, and so with supervision, she would play with them.
I am now finding them useful for projects, like the one above. They are versatile, cheap, and I think I could get used to seeing them on my cards and layouts.
Please take out your buttons ladies, and create. Then drop in to Practical Scrappers to show them what you have done. We would all love to see what creative projects you can come up with.

Hugs to you,
Tanya

P.S This card was also made to thank Sweet Pea Stamps for the wonderful set of stamps I won from them a couple of months back. These precious ladies are so fun to color in.

New Color Medium for a New Year

Hello,

We are done Christmas, and now have to admit that it is winter. So to keep my spirits bright, warm and sunny I chose this color scheme. This sketch is from Lilian over at The Sugar Bowl. They asked us to use this sketch and incorporate something "New" into it, prompting me to use a new color medium...Twinkling H2O's. This is my very first attempt, I have very few colors, and had to blend red and yellow to make the orange. Any suggestions on how to improve my technique would be appreciated ladies.
The Fussy and Fancy Friday Challenge also asked us to use something "NEW", it seems to be the time of year for that. I forgot to mention that my flower embellishments are also fairly new, I got these at Michelle's Scrapbooking and More. They jumped right out at me!

To close this post, I will pass on this simple wish.........I hope you all Dream BIG this year, as I hope my daughters will do the same.
Have a good Monday,
Hugs

Happy New Year!

Happy New Year!

I just handed in my very first assignment for Practical Scrappers and I am so excited as I am now a part of their design team! I have to say that each design team member has a different sense of style, it is quite interesting to see what each come up with on a weekly basis. Please drop in and visit, they have sketch challenges, subject challenges, and they really get you using all your supplies laying about getting dusty.

This card is so appropriate for today's forecast, as it snowed all night and now we are going to go outside to play in it. We got a lot done over the past week, mainly playing with the kids. Come Monday, it is back to work, school, playschool, swimming and dance lessons. Ok, not all on the same day, but the routine starts up full force again.
I used CPS Sketch#60 for this one, and of course I just had to use more of this TPC shimmery paper.
Stay Warm, be happy, and wishing you all the very best in 2010!
Hugs
Tanya
P.S. This qualifies for the 5 for Friday over at 365 Cards , I have patterned paper, ribbon, stickers, buttons, and embroidery thread on this card.
